An Important Success Lesson

I’ve just learnt a very important success lesson which I wanted to share with you today. It’s a fairly long message, but stick with me here because this is something I don’t want you to forget…

My motivation has been pretty low recently, and procrastination has been really taking a hold of me. I haven’t felt like working on my website at all, and that’s why I stopped posting inspirational messages on my blog.

So I went back and listened to a few of the interviews I conducted with other successful speakers to see if I could rekindle my motivation.

*Something slapped me in the face* when I was listening to an interview I conducted with Sue Stockdale.

I asked her what is the number 1 thing she wants to share that would help listeners to achieve success… and without hesitation she said:

“To have FUN!”

It’s not revolutionary. It’s just common sense.

But in my struggle to set up the different aspects of my website, I had forgotten this.

My motivation was low and procrastination was ruling my life.

So I stopped everything I was doing, and focused 90% of my attention on the areas of my website that I really enjoyed. And guess what?

*I’m more motivated than ever now!*

I’m currently producing an inspirational success CD package, setting up a winners only success club, and much much more. (keep an eye out for them all early next year)

Most importantly, I have rekindled the fire which first motivated me to start the site.

It’s all common sense, but I think we forget it at times. Success is all about the journey, and if you aren’t enjoying the journey, you won’t make it to the end.

So find out what motivates you, what fires you up… and start going for it. And if you got anything out of this email, it should be this:

—–
When you do start to stray from your path and lose your motivation like I did – shift your focus back to what you have fun doing!

When you are having fun, the motivation to work towards your dream comes easily!
—–

That’s all for now. Stay focused and achieve success.

Videos For You - How To Get More Energy And Be More Healthy

Hi there everyone, sorry for the lack of activity around here lately.

I’ve just come across an absolute gold mine of inspirational videos for you to check out… made by the champion Jack Lalanne.

Many of you probably know of Jack, but most likely have never seen him in this type of footage.

Jack was a fitness and success champion way ahead of his time. The principles he was teaching back then in these videos are only just being “discovered” in modern studies.

So when you get the time, make sure you check these out.

From what I know, the videos were taken from an old television show Jack used to run. Many of them are extracts of him sharing some of his life and success knowledge.

Honestly, I spent over 2 hours watching all these videos… they are truly inspirational.

They’re all free, and you can view them at the following link:

YouTube - Jack Lalanne

(Note that there are 4 pages of videos there. You may not be interested in all the “face exercise” videos… but make sure you check out all the others. There are some real gems in there that you don’t want to miss.)

Make the time today to watch these videos, you will not be disappointed.

To your success,

Matthew

Failing Your Way To Success

Last weekend I went to a game of basketball.

I’m no fan or regular supporter, but I do enjoy watching a game or two every now and again.

Well, as it turns out, something very interesting happened at this game.

There was this one player (from the home team) who kept making mistake after mistake. Some supporters of the opposing team were sitting right behind me, screaming out all sorts of insults at how hopeless this player was every time he faulted.

And honestly, this was quite often. Every couple of minute this player would fumble the ball, make a bad pass or commit a foul. And don’t even get me started on the amount of easy shots he missed.

But let me tell you something really cool:

This guy not only made the most errors in the game, but he also scored the most points. He even scored the winning basket.

Think about that.

He made the most mistakes, but also had the most successes.

For every mistake he made, a success followed.

There were plenty of other players that performed almost flawlessly, but didn’t get as many points. While they sat back and took things cautiously, this one guy charged in and took action. And it paid off.

There’s definitely a lesson to be learned here.

In fact, here’s a few quotes that really hammer it home…

———-

“If you can’t make a mistake, you can’t make anything.”
– Marva Collins

“If you want to increase your success rate, double your failure rate.”
– Thomas Watson, Sr

“Go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because that’s where you will find success. On the far side of failure.”
– Thomas J. Watson, Sr.

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
– Michael Jordan

How To Eliminate Fear From Your Life

——————————
Important Note:

This is a long post, but it contains some real nuggets of information.
You may want to print it out so it is easier to read.
——————————

As you know, I don’t claim to be an expert on success. It’s a big reason why I enjoy providing you interviews with people who ARE experts on success. I figure I’ll leave it up to them to teach you about their areas of expertise.

I don’t like to write about things pretending I know what I’m talking about when I really don’t (something you see a lot of in the online world of personal development).

But there are some things I do know a lot about…

If there’s one thing I’m close to mastering in my life — it’s fear.

Now, I’m no-where near perfect and still have my own problems and issues to deal with — but fear is no longer something that majorly affects me.

Of course I still get scared, but I have learnt to deal with it.

There are so many people though who haven’t learnt to their handle fear. And they’re not living up to their potential because of it. Whatever the fear may be, it is holding them back from living their lives.

Well, you guessed it… today I’m going to show you exactly how I deal fear. Hopefully you can use some of these techniques to start overcoming your own fears and living your dream life… unrestrained.

Firstly, you must understand what fear is. I’m not going to give you a scientific explanation, but instead my own interpretation of fear:

———-
Fear — the natural reaction our body gives to warn us of situations that may be harmful.
———-

Fear is necessary in life. If we never got scared, we would jump off buildings, pick up snakes and do all sorts of crazy things that could potentially kill us.

But not everything we are afraid of is harmful. Many times it is just a figment of our imagination… an unreasonable reaction to an un-harmful situation.

An example is trying something new for the first time. We are all scared of it… but what’s the worst that could happen. We get embarrassed? We find it difficult? It’s certainly not going to kill us, let alone harm us in any way.

So let’s talk about the ways that I personally overcome fear, and we’ll see if you don’t learn something. Firstly…

———-
Calculate Your Risks
———-

This is the first thing to consider. Are your fears legitimate? Are the risks too high?

I’m a big participator in sports such as waterskiing, motocross and gymnastics — where mistakes can really hurt you. I learnt quickly that you need to push your limits, but never exceed them. I need to be constantly calculating whether the risk is beyond my limits or not.

And that’s the first step in eliminating fear – calculating the risks. Don’t just take a risk unless you have it fully calculated.

Let me introduce an imaginary example that we can work with for the rest of this article: Diving into a pool off a 10m (30ft) platform. (I’ve never done this, just using it as an example.)

I’m guessing that most people would be scared of this for the first time. But calculating the process, we can minimise the possible negative consequences… and thereby reduce our levels of fear.

We don’t want to just blindly dive in (for obvious reasons). Instead, we want to calculate the risks.

Ask yourself:

– Are you able to perform a proper dive?

– Can you swim?

– How much room is there for error?

– Are you fully prepared?

This alone helps you to understand what is behind your anxieties… and goes a long way to reducing your fear.

The next fear demolishing strategy is:

———-
Work In Small Steps
———-

Breaking a scary thing into smaller parts also breaks your fear into smaller parts. So at each step, you only have to deal with a fraction of the original fear.

In the case of our diving example, you first want to make sure that you know how to dive correctly. You would get someone to coach you, and you would practice until you were confident that you would not make a mistake.

Secondly, you would slowly work up to the height of 10 metres. Start at a small 1metre diving board. Then work up to the next height and so on.

Do what you can to slowly build up to the event step by step, and you will find things a whole lot easier… and less scary.

———-
Focus
———-

This is crucial, but is also probably the hardest part in dealing with fear. When the moment of truth arrives, you want to eliminate all negative thoughts from your mind and focus only on the task at hand.

It sounds simple, but it’s not. Thoughts of doubt and worry will try to enter your mind, but you have to shut them out.

For our diving example, you want to eliminate all doubting thoughts that you will get hurt or you will make a mistake… and instead focus entirely on simply performing a good dive.

It’s a hard skill to master, but I believe the best way is to start with minor things and progress from there (such as when you are working on the smaller steps). It will eventually come to a point where you can temporarily turn your fear off at will.

———-
Act Anyway
———-

Finally, if you’ve done all the necessary preparation, then the only thing holding you back now are your false fears. You know you are ready for the dive, but you are still scared.

Now it’s time to just commit and go for it. Action is the best way to eliminate fear.

Don’t hesitate though, as this only increases your chances of failing. Commit 100% and act despite your fear. If you commit, then 99% of the time you will walk away without a scratch (from whatever it is you are attempting).

Then it’s just a matter of repeating and repeating until you are no longer scared.

Always remember that once your preparation is over… that action is the best way to eliminate fear.

As they say: “Fear knocked at the door and when action answered, there was nobody there.”

———-

To finish this article, I’d like to share with you an inspirational lesson I learnt a few months ago. It went something like this:

“Today, choose something you are afraid of… and do it. Then do it again. And again and again, until you are no longer afraid. Do this everyday of your life, and soon you will be telling your story to the world.”

I hope you got something out of this article, and that you are now one step closer to overcoming the fears that are holding you back in life.

Motocross And Success?

I just recently read the biography of a great motocross racer Travis Pastrana. Here’s a few quotes from the book that really stood out:

“Every opportunity offers a new path in life. Remember, there are no wrong turns.”

“Live every day exactly the way you want.”

“Today’s limits shouldn’t be tomorrow’s.”

“Sometimes the biggest risk is not taking one.”

“Do great things, even if no one is watching.”

“Everything is impossible, until someone does it.”

If you want to check out the book for yourself, it’s called — The Big Jump: The Tao Of Travis Pastrana

When You Hit Rock Bottom

A few weeks ago there was a huge scandal in Australian sport.

One of our top sports stars Andrew Johns was caught in possession of party d.rug.s, and he later admitted to taking them regularly throughout his career.

You may be wondering why I am writing about this. Simply, because I believe there is a lesson hidden in this story.

For those not familiar with Andrew Johns… he was one of the greatest Rugby League players of all time, and one of the great role models in Australia.

Personally, he was my favourite sportsman and I looked up to him as a person too. But when he announced that he regularly took party d.rug.s throughout his career… it shocked me quite a bit.

I’ll be honest, I think Andrew Johns is an absolute idiot for taking what he did.

It may surprise you though that also I believe these events give him the chance to go past being a great sportsperson to being an exceptional human being.

When interviewed about the events, it was clear that this was the lowest point of his life. But as they say… the true measure of a man is not how he behaves in times of peace, but how he behaves in times of struggle and darkness.

A lot of people gave up hope on Andrew Johns, but I think he has the opportunity to turn this around and really help change some people’s lives.

And I think that how he bounces back from this will determine how great a person he really is.

———-
The key thing that I want to get across to you is that failure is not the end. It is just a temporary setback that leads to more opportunity.

It’s like being pulled back in a slingshot. You are stretched until you don’t think you can last any longer… but if you do hold on you’ll be flung back to where you were, and even further.
———-

So I ask you, next time you are faced with a tough situation… to look at it as a test. A test to see what you are made of, to see how committed you really are to your goals and your life.

Failures only open opportunities to success.

In fact, our biggest successes always come after our greatest failures.

You Just Have To Check Out This Quote

Hey everyone,

Over the past few days I’ve been at a loss trying to come up with some helpful and inspirational things to send you. I’ve got a few short stories, but nothing all that interesting.

Then I came across a quote this morning that I just HAD to let you know about. I’m kicking myself for not writing it down and remembering who first said it.

But anyway, the quote went something like this:

————————————-
Most people die in their twenties…
but are not buried until they are 80.
————————————-

My translation: Once people get past their teenage years, they lose sight of their goals, their dreams and their desires of getting the most out of life. Instead they are content to live day by day, stuck to their schedule like zombies… while the joys of the world pass them by until they die.

I’m going to leave it up to you to decide what you are going to do with this quote… but I sure hope you got as much out of it as I did, and are spurred to take action towards your dreams.

Wow, I love quotes.

I’m actually creating a few mini movie clips chock full of quotes, images and music to give you a boost of inspiration. Keep an eye out for that in the next few weeks.
